The Mighty Wind

Heading home from work last week by bicycle, I turned onto a favorite piece of single-track. It had been windy earlier that afternoon for about 45 minutes, but this I didn’t expect….

As I picked my way over the last tree, it occured to me – wouldn’t it have been wild to have out when it was windy!

What’s Happening, Thursday Edition

What I love most about my bicycle commit is the variety.

On my ride home today, I noticed a plume of dark smoke in the distance (I was riding along the east side of the Bow River, south of where Deeerfoot Trail crosses the Bow, and north of the pathway’s Higgins Bridge over the Bow) and called 9-1-1.

Riding over (a bit difficult, as I was still talking to the response center), I could see a fallen tree next to the river with quite a bit of smoke and a bit of active flame in the stump. There was also a fellow biker standing in the river filling up his water bottle and emptying it on the stump – clearly fighting a losing battle. Ten minutes later the fire truck arrived and took over putting out the fire.
